I promise to love you and turkey baste you!

Have you seen the movie "If these walls could talk 2"? The part 3 scene opens when Fran (played by Sharon Stone) realizes that she is ovulating. Kal (played by Ellen DeGeneres) rushes out the door to the donor company to pick up the sperm. On the way home, she seat belts the nitrogen tank in into the passenger seat and carefully drives at a snails pace home, stalling traffic and yelling out the drivers side window to a neighboring car that 'I have sperm'. The scene goes on to illustrate several different insemination attempts. This little scene in the movie is the closet you can get to the real thing in mainstream society (minus the actual turkey baster scene).

I think we all can relate to this scene in one way or another. That portion of the movie is what comes to mind when I think of sharing a child with A. Not your typical "dream" of making a baby. No one ever called us conventional though. We have been bantering the idea back and forth between us for a year now, to have a baby or to not have a baby? A is almost 45, and her own clock ticked and tocked, and shut down a few years back. Ultimately, we want to share a person who is solely ours, raise a person with just our values- and hopefully give the world a great person. I digress though, let me start at the beginning.
Our journey begins of all places on Myspace, going on 7 yrs ago. A cute urban gal meets a an outgoing rural mountain girl. Think Green Acres minus the animals, and farm. We some how managed to join our worlds, and have settled in the South East. A long with meeting me, and diving head into mountain culture, A also has taken on my two children- the small, sweet 4 and 5 year olds she met at the time. Have evolved into a mouthy 12 yr old, and an OCD 10 yr old. We couldn't be prouder.
I think some people might believe that lesbian parenting is different some how from heterosexual parenting. I assure you it is not. We get up every morning, push our kids out of the bed, gather backpacks, shoes, and lunches. Walk them to the bus, wait for them to get home, do after school activities, homework, dinner, and hopefully get to speak to each other sometime within the the chaos. If it sounds like your life, its because it is.
So now we start again, all over, just the two of us. I believe its going to be a little more tricky, than the efforts I put out for my first two children. More work, means more sweetness though.
We have been cleared health wise, all papers have been sent, we are ago to buy sperm. Which in case you are wondering is so much more expensive than the effort it takes to produce it. Think of a teaspoon (5cc), one vial of sperm roughly (1cc) is almost $600 dollars a vial. Add that to the shipment container $185, and if you have office procedures. We are talking a small fortune for a child. Also note that I am a nurse I know the stats (It generally takes 3-6 times to get a pregnancy) you do the math, which worries me a little- but A has been so positive that she is almost contagious. So I am going to believe just like her. We are going to do this, and its going to happen the first time. Fingers crossed, breath held.
So join us on our journey, it should be a good time.

Thanks ya'll!! I am the one being basted! A is 45 and I am 30. So it was a number game, my chances are much better than hers. :)
